A fairly volatile week with Friday making an exciting close over the 200 day exponential moving average. Jobs numbers were good, but that spooked the market that rates might continue rising, pushing bonds lower.

Technology led, up 2.57%, while Energy lagged, down -5.03% for the week.

Fear and Greed Index

This week the fear and greed indicator increased from 25 to 29 (slightly bullish). The VIX remains above 17 with a weekly high of 18.73. The Put/Call Ratio remains over 1 (bearish). The Fear and Greed Indicator is a tool used to gauge the overall market sentiment based on several indicators. It provides valuable insights into investor behavior by analyzing factors such as volatility and options trading.

VIX

Here’s how the VIX traded this week. It remained elevated over 17. Primarily, it serves as an indicator of the expected 30-day volatility of the S&P 500, providing insights into the market’s sentiment and risk perception.

SPY, Last Week Price Action

Here’s a view of SPY over the past few months, with a box around the prior week. We are a hair over the 200 EMA now, which is bullish. One of our premium member technicians tells us that holding 419 will be key in this trend reversing.

AAII Sentiment

Between 9/27 and 10/4, the AAII Sentiment showed a slight increase in bullishness from 27.8%, a slight decrease in neutral from 31.3%, and a slight increase in bearishness from 40.9%.

Interest Rates

We now have a a 4.7% 10 year, a 4.9% 30 year, and a 5% 2 year. 🙃

Economic Events & Earnings

PPI and FOMC meeting minutes on Wednesday, then CPI and Initial Jobless Claims on Thursday. For earnings, we have DAL 0.00%↑ & DPZ 0.00%↑ reporting on Thursday, and JPM 0.00%↑ , UNH 0.00%↑ , C 0.00%↑ , BLK 0.00%↑ , WFC 0.00%↑ reporting on Friday, both before the bell.
